Google Help Forums To Change Member Ranking System

The Google Web Search Help , Google News Help & Google Merchant Center Help forums all are announcing new changes coming to how forum members are ranked in these forums. Currently, the member titles or levels are from Level 1 to Level 4. Some users get special titles, such as top contributors and/or certified professionals , or even Googler's get a special label, labeling them as Googlers. I do not believe the labels will be changing, but the levels will. Instead of the 4 levels, there will be 20 levels

The Pew Internet project has just released a lengthy report on online news consumption entitled Understanding the Participatory News Consumer. "0 Indexed URLs" In Google News Sitemaps Bug

A Google News Help thread has some reports of publishers reporting that their Google News Sitemaps are reporting "0 Indexed URLs" in Google Webmaster Tools. I too saw this issue and I thought that perhaps there was a bug in my sitemap file. But Google did not report any issues with my sitemap file, plus, I saw my articles were being indexed within Google News. So I figured, it was a reporting glitch in Google Webmaster Tools. It appears I was right

Google Open Sources "Living Stories" Concept

Google is open sourcing the Living Stories news article concept at Google Code . What is a living story? Well, instead of writing an article for each new event that happens on a certain topic, you update an existing story with the latest information. If you think about it, there are tons of articles out there on the web, that are stale, outdated and often useless. Having a single, constantly updated story, makes more sense, at least for web consumption - according to Google. Google ran this experiment with some papers and decided to make it available to all. First, here is a video explaining it: They are even incorporating it more in the new Google News design . Fred from Google wrote in the Google News Help thread about it

They’re Back: AP Stories Reappear In Google

In the peek-a-boo dance of the AP-Google negotiation, it appears that AP stories are back in Google News. Earlier this month Danny wrote an extensive post about an apparent deal between the parties to allow the continued indexing of AP stories in Google News. Now the Wall Street Journal reports: New articles from the Associated Press have ....

3 Months Later, Google Finally Fixes RSS News Feed Issue

Six months after the Google News RSS feed validation issues were reported in Google News Help forums, Google has fixed the issue. The first report came in a Google News Help thread on August 7, 2009. Yesterday, on February 8, 2010, Inbal from Google, said the issue was resolved. Inbal said: This issue should be fixed. If you're still seeing issues, please send us the exact steps you're taking as well as the OS/Browser you're using. Finally, if you could either send a screenshot via a link or via the Report an Issue contact form, that should help us look into this further.
